And mornings come early and earlier. The guesthouse, lined up with the first rays of the morning sun, if it's cloudy I can sleep in, if not I'm up with it. 5:30 now and earlier, no possibility of napping until it's raised itself above the window, by the solstice I'll be up at 4:30 every day, not a problem, if it wasn't for the fact that I'm working until 11:00...
Still, the mornings here are the best times, every bird in the forest is singing, a hundred different pitched conversations, clouds gently rising up from the valley, silkworms hover in the sunlight, little gossamer curtains with glistening dewy beads, sit outside on the shaded step and watch the day begin...time, at this hour, for fa hundred, a thousand plans to be laid and revised...

I've actually seen a few of the more antique versions, but this one - notice the water flowing from the tap - is exceptionally well done.

While exploring Creston with the daughter I discovered this shop:

Without a doubt the best prospecting shop I've been in. Nothing in Calgary comes even close, in Edmonton - well, Bedrock's fine, but not this good, and the shop I hit in Vancouver couldn't compare either. It has everything - a dozen different pans, screens, sieves, crevicing tools for snipers, sluice boxes, mats, metal detectors, EVERYTHING.
She had to drag me out of there, prices, reasonable, selection, terrific, and handily located to my explorations...

Back in Calgary, for a bit at least, winter is spent on the MTO, Mapping treasures, Emeralds, Topaz, Ruby, Sapphire, Diamonds, it will be, if I can afford it, a busy summer. It's all here. The diamonds, they're an Alberta thing, there are claims here for that as well, closer to the Alberta border, but for everything else there are claims within 50 KM of Nelson. I've already found Garnets, when the snow is gone I'll find the rest. Everything. Every Gem in the fucking world. I'm creating my own map, adding 2 or three new markers per day, everywhere here you can dig and be surprised, the trick always is recognizing what you've found and creating value from it...

It's probably not a nuthatch, small, the size of a sparrow, dark brown, long beak that seems to hook downward at the end.
Saw it on a walk, flitting, quick movements through the bushes, almost always in the periphery of my vision, then in the morning as I drink my coffee, smoke my cigarette outside, flitting up from underneath the stairs, keeping itself at just over an arms length, curious, it tilts it's head at me, inquisitive, watches.
As I chop wood, curious, it's following me, delivering it to the house, studying me, I suspect that I'm a new species as well. I don't know what it is, a nuthatch is the nearest description I could find, the color, shape of the beak don't match, it's movements, sharper, more abrupt than those of the common sparrow, friendly and curious.
