This was last night's movie to watch. I promised myself I would stop watching junk films - this was to be the start of that routine. It had been on the list for a while, and I had forgotten about it, somehow came across it and gave it a go.

Now, firstly, this is not a great film. It is not about being a good film, it's a documentary, it's about a person, about people, community, and celebrating their relationships with one another.

It's about more than that, and - as you may have not watched it I'll talk more about it after the "read more" link below. Warning - spoilers below - ensure you've seen the film before proceeding:

This hit too close to home. I know her, not her, but one close enough.

This was hard, difficult, impossible to watch even. And while you rage against an ending you know is coming - you also should recognize the evil embodied by the Judge Gale Welsh and Psychiatrist Dr. John Doucet. That either of these people avoided life in prison damns the entire judicial and associated psychiatric practices. They are every bit as evil, vile and complicit in the end result as the murderess herself.

The premeditated machinery of evil, systematic incompetence, arrogance, entitlement and stupidity that led to this is unbelievable. And that we allow these people to live and walk among us makes us complicit.

This is a very disturbing - but necessary - film.
