Saturday night and I'm catching up with the boy. Specifically on Arts and Culture, and so we go to see "The Ballad of Ricky & Ronny - A Pop Opera" at The Grand.
I like The Grand, they do interesting stuff. Modern, artistic stuff.
I hadn't a clue as to what it would be about, and I'm still not sure, but to sum it up for you briefly there was nudity, a nurse who kneeled at the edge of the stage the entire production - and then appeared in a cartoon at the end - and took a bow. And there was profanity and obscene sexual references and there was a child named "freedom" and a pinkslimeboy and spermcoffins and there was a man with heels and stockings over his head playing golf and there was singing, lots of singing because this is a pop-opera, after all.The boy and I, we started laughing about 10 minutes in and couldn't stop until it was over. No one beats his dad for arts and culture.
People were leaving throughout the production, and I assured the boy that this was a mark of quality, the best theater will, should offend. And I begged him not to try and describe it to his mother if he ever wanted to go to a play with me again (and I'm not sure that he does...).
As he astutely pointed out, it made Art City Shorts seem positively rural by comparison....
On a scale of 1-10 I'd give it a 10 on the WTF scale. All other measures are useless.
