And for some reason 2016 is starting off with the expected deaths of a lot of people I somehow knew...
David Bowie, Edgar Mitchell, Glenn Frey, Alan Rickman, George Jonas. All older than me, but culturally relevant. To me.
People have been dying forever, there's nothing new there, but these people, they are intruding upon my generation, they're the people I know, and they're the scouts preparing me for my time...
Every new death where I know the participant, it's a bit the death of me, and I prepare accordingly. I now understand what the last generation was feeling when they were witness to the deaths of Frank Sinatra, George Burns, Etc, it's not so much their loss as the realization that this death, this mortality, is but a foreshadowing of their own...

And this, recommended to me by Pam as the answer to Joanna Newsom's "Divers".

...dreamed that I was in a big Banff-Springs-Styled hotel/shopping mall somewhere in the Drumheller Valley, I'm to be marrying a couple of the regular customers in the restaurant, waiting in a church inside the hotel, the bride has arrived, but there's no groom or guests...
Some parts of the hotel are open to the sky, the ceiling is in ruins, like an old castle, and a storm breaks and so I retire into the church to wait it out, the bride has disappeared...
...popping my head out, wondering at the absence of guests, I look down the open hall and see them all assembled in the lounge, they see me, wave, laugh, joke, they're all here, and I realize that I'm not really a minister or priest and what exactly am I supposed to be doing...?
It doesn't matter, there's a big parade through town, Drumheller, all the residents, shopkeepers, they're there, dressed up as performers, acrobats, larger than life characters, and as I roll through with the parade I'm impressed, they're all dancing their best, the music, festival, is amazing, Superbowl quality, first class, and as the parade passes they step into line and follow, they're all abandoning the town, it's done, over, and I wonder if some will have to go back to the ghost town to wrap up their affairs, or is it now, really, all done? ... The parade is amazing...
