It's a vanishing art, this. I know, I've tried a few, most are clowns barely fit to change a battery, but he's different, his walls are lined with European & Swiss certifications, He's in his 60's and he's been doing this all his life, as has his father before him.
I've been coming here almost 20 years. He's the best watch repairman in Western Canada.

"Through her stories, I had learned to love and admire this mysterious race of tall, hairy people called Bigfoot. I chose not to use that name because it sounded somewhat demeaning. (Their feet are not large for their height and weight. They are in perfect proportion. They only are large compared to human feet.)"
From Joan Ocean's weblog describing her experiences and communications with Bigfoot. To the left, pictured, is a drawing by Bigfoot given to her. If you have any clue as to what it might mean she'd like to know. I have my theories....

"Don't make eye contact" I tell myself, but it's hard, it's a rhinoceros and it's in my kitchen.
I make coffee in the mornings, glance over, acknowledge it, then find ways of procrastinating. More coffee, breakfast, snacks, bite of lunch, dinner, I wander past it head in the air, down to the basement to clean the cat litter.
It's been there for a week.

I can't add to the praise this book has justly received, laughing out loud frequently and reading the entire novel in a sitting, all the while thinking of who I could lend it to...
The Boy. He's probably, almost-not-quite ready but he really should read this.
And unlike "Absurdistan" it has depth and resonance. Undoubtedly you've heard of it, probably you've already read it (and I'm dying to give spoilers, like how the attorney is the best depiction of a lawyer I've seen since Barry Zuckerman in "Arrested Development" or quote from the novel...), but if you haven't pick it up. A light but rewarding read.
