2 more days. Long days. I can somehow imagine the last day will go quick, we'll get the customers out early, move the tables, final clean of bar and kitchen, our thoughts will be on the brief weeks ahead. Which really only leaves one day, one long day, much to do...
The customers, some, most of whom are too kind. I'll miss them, don't want to disappoint them that I no longer care to serve, it's tough to explain but they should understand. Still, some will be missed more than others.
Like Mitch, great regular customer, friendly, loves his food. And he has an apartment in Vancouver, he's trying to get me to take the keys to it, "Take a vacation, a couple of days off and go stay there" he says. And I want to explain that there are no days off here. None whatsoever, never 2 days off in a row. But he's on a roll - "I have a 57 Mustang convertible, fully loaded, you can have the keys.... Now this is nice, he doesn't know me but I serve him maybe twice a month, and he's offering me his apartment and even if there were time I couldn't accept but he's so insistent, the spirit is grand and I'll miss him, miss the others. Most of the others anyways.
But there's the vacation, the dentist, and then the move and it will be time to move on from there as well.

This was the dream before the Christian Slater dream, Oranges and Lemons, the evocation of old streets and memories, rainy streets, the reflection of bright neon in the puddles on the pavement, old buildings, memories of places I haven't yet been, smells, people, romance, my notes of "Oranges and Lemons" were to jog my memory but now they aren't enough and it's lost.

Strange dream, I tried to get back to it, but I was afraid I'd forget and in the moments I made my notes it was lost...
Warehouses, warehouse district (old brownstones), nightime, walking behind them and I find craters in the sand filled with what appear to be twonies, bi-metal currency, coins of some sort, and I'm kneeling, trying to fill my pockets and I hear voices and I quickly cover the coins with sand so I can retrieve them later.
I duck into an open door, hide behind it and peer through the crack...
They saw me. They didn't see me. They don't care. Their talking about the coins, the bags that missed the train (and there's a train there now, beside the sand), and the train is leaving...
Now I'm in an office, decrepit, empty, I'm Christian Slater and I'm looking out, 6, maybe 8 stories up, I'm thinking of killing myself, jumping out the window when I look out and see the train beneath me and I'm seeing it pull away and I realize it's full of the money they stole (those guys) and I have an idea...
Now I'm a film director, following Christian Slater as he's running along, trying to catch the train, he's going to get on it, take it over, it'll be his, they don't make many movies about trains these days and I'm pretty sure this one will be a hit, Christian Slater will jump on the train and the loot will be his, but we have an action film to make first and he's running after the train, running beside it, cutting through the streets (and I'm thinking, maybe 70's streets and costumes, it'll give the set decorators something to do, better locations) and he's running under overpasses, across long suspension bridges with the train slowly picking up steam beside him, he's cutting through funky 70's neighborhoods with hot girls and cool people in the background (black guys with red leather jackets and big afros), he's running and....now he's on the top of the train, he has to find the money car, he's climbing along, jumping from car to car, lying low in tunnels, he's got to find the money car and start getting it off the train..
Bizarre dream, change of perspectives (from 1st person to Christian Slater to director brainstorming the idea of a train movie...)
3 days and counting

Amorphous plans. The day off this week usurped to business requirements, predictable, somehow, and so what should be 2 days off and counting (today a day off) is now 3 days and counting. Only 3 days.
There's much to do, and time runs out. The restaurant, always insanely busy, late departures (11:00, 11:30 PM), trip to the thrift shop this morning, picked up a sleeping bag, booked appointment with dentist, called landlord and advised of my notice (message left on machine, hate that), there's the organization of 1000 things that need doing before I can finally leave...
And the computer's acting up, scanned for viruses, issues persist. It's Telus, their modem, their security suite, but it's bigger than that. Windows Live Messenger crashes on boot up, and while I never use it it annoys me that it's not working. And I'm unable to burn discs, the PC goes through the motions, but when attempting to play the disc I find it's blank. No errors, just that the disc hasn't been burned. The desktop icons are rearranged every time I log in, I used to sort them, there was order of sort but it's undone now with every hibernation or reboot. Trivial things that annoy you and consume your time.
Time passes.
