Finally, to see this tonight with the kids, they've both seen it already, the boy liked, the girl, not so much.
And I can appreciate both points of view - it's got everything, the "in" jokes, the familiarity of the Millennium Falcon, the original actors and 'droids, the same plot even, merely shaken up and rearranged. Everything but originality.
I knew it when I went, not sooo disappointed, not sooo impressed, but not an intelligent, or resonant movie by a long shot.
So I return to one I've been postponing - A Perverts Guide to Ideology. I'll let you discover that one on you're own...

And I rediscover this, I've watched it a couple of times. Genius. Metaphor, Allegory, everything in it, from the age of the actor to the every last Plasticine detail in the animation, recommending it to a friend, recommending it again and again, but they are few and far between who would appreciate it as I do. After Orpheus, my second most favorite myth/legend...

And having finished watching it, and somewhat (not entirely) puzzled, thoughtful, musing, brilliant imagery, people, dialogue, metaphor, it's rather polarized the critics. If you liked any of Paul Kaufman's other works I'd recommend it, otherwise you might just be taking your chances...

I was surprised to discover this - I haven't seen it. Given I loved Being John Malkovitch, and appreciated Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Adaptation, this will have to be remedied - probably this evening.
