A garage sale on Sunday near to the Flea Market and I find a lamp.
It's wood turned, old, there's a sort of flicker to the varnish that looks a bit like gold, $10.00, and when I go to pay for it the elderly lady hosting the sale hastens to give me the provenance.
"It was made my Uncle when he was in high school. Later on he went to fight in WW2 and died at 23 when his ship was torpedoed...."
Sad, it should be kept in the family but she wants to sell it. Underneath the lamp is the stamp - Western Canada High School Woodworking, the makers name and other details.

Inspired, no doubt, by the recent trip to BC, the Yukon and Alaska I've been looking at going prospecting myself.
While searching about for places to explore I stumbled upon this website:
Link: http://www.bc-alter.net/dfriesen/treasureleads.html
yeah, it smacks of a badly written children's book, but in a way it's kind of exciting. Inspiring, even. Which will have me searching more treasure leads in BC, it's a long winter until spring...

http://scottgundersen.tumblr.com/ - Who produces art out of old wine corks. I knew there was a reason I was saving my corks.
And there's this video on Vimeo in which artist Ashley Hackshaw creates a portrait of Frida Kahlo out of buttons - time laspe photography shows how she did it. I've seen better, but it's good to watch the process.

And back just a few days when the cat - exploring a pile of wood on the constantly-repaired parking lot - discovers a strange animal. Dark brown fur, long of body - a weasel, but not quite, and so I look it up. It's a marten. Cute, perhaps a bit out of the cat's league...
And there's a family of partridges - they seem to return every year, 8 this year, they fly and land on the power poles, explore the grass in the condo complex, at work too much to know if they're now regulars or were just passing through.
Tonight - last time for a week to watch the sunset, go up to Nose Hill. And as the sun sets there's an owl that prowls about my head, diving and swooping in the grass, circling above my bench, curious. The net extent of wildlife upon my return.
