This, a cool detail from an antique bed. I don't need two. But I want it...
I settled for a picture. See how I'm growing?
You know, strip off the bad gilding and do it again better and it would be a very cool thing. And I wonder why the Pan motif, but most probably there's a reasonable explanation.

I'm trying to reacquire the equipment I'll need to get out prospecting this year. Gold Pan, Classifiers, small pick and shovel. Merely replacing what was stolen from me last year.
One of the volunteers has some classifiers, brings them in for me - they're perfect, if a bit small, but they'll work and they're definitely from the day:
Now, for a gold pan and the rest of the tools. I have a few spots I'd like to get to my next day off, if the car will start (and it's still there, last I looked...)

The irony, of course, is that the Gospel's in and of themselves are not true, the entire thing a patchwork of fiction and parables designed to illustrate the ideal life and maintain a certain social order. This is not to disagree with the message(s), but rather point out that those people who harp upon Jesus as a real person are rather missing the point and almost always missing the practice, much as Cinderella was not a real person and her not being real in no ways impacts the lesson of the story, so does Jesus's life (and death) become irrelevant in that they are meant solely as instructional aids.
What I find curious is how the Bible has numerous injunctions against false (other) gods, and against worshiping graven images (the same as many other religions) - yet almost the entirety of Christianity is based upon the symbolism of Christ on a Crucifix, or the images of the Saints, thereby almost entirely devaluing it's message in it's attempts to make it "accessible". And that said I love to collect religious kitsch and memorabilia, although I'm not bowing down before it, merely jogging a certain line of thought...

Now I read it, I had to, having requested a copy.
It was better than I expected, which was not much. That is not to say that it was good, standard New Age Theosophical type stuff, with lines like: "Through quantum physics and our advanced technology, it has been discovered that the heart is the true brain of the body.", that explain nothing and presume upon the reader to have an understanding of quantum physics and advanced technology that clearly the author doesn't.
This is the thing, I've long been at the point where if I met the Buddha on the road I'd have to kill him, and this, it's presumptive, that he's found the meaning of life (maybe?), that his experience is worth the sharing (perhaps?), that he can explain better or in a more accessible fashion what all the world's teachers have taught since the beginning of time.
In this I disagree. The truth, given it's variable nature, is best explained through sutras, koans, parables, his nonsensical fables and illustrations explain very little, what would be more informative is a collection of parables, gospels, stories, poems, all culled from the great religions of the world and that work towards illustrating the common point.
In any event, he wrote it, got it published, so he's doing something right, and I am a poor disciple. But it's read and when I see them next I will say how wonderful it is and congratulate him on his own personal interpretation. Now on to my own projects...
