...one, a man turning around with an acrylic pour. Now, this was a popular thing for a while, gives you an attractive product, but - it's a technique, not an end in itself.
Still I like to look at them, the variety of artist's studios, some of which are quite impressive and a heck of a lot more inspiring than the nuisance and hazards area I've set up in my living room...
Then there's the other ones, turning over their "painting a day" until they manage to sell it. I suppose, given the breadth of their audience, that sooner or later somebody has to take an interest...
"Turning over Painting #17 Until I find my Audience", which - I understand, everyone wants an audience, needs one if they hope to sell their work, but - the products, so often derivative examples of talent and competency but rarely possess anything approaching "ART", but they're right, if they've an audience they're probably on Facebook right now...
And one - this was brilliant, a studio set up in a living room, a forty-something handsome woman just "going for it" an a canvas, an actress (you'd hope) primed with words like "Passion" and "Energy" and "Ebullience" and "Inspired" and "Create" and all sorts of other bollocks has filmed herself in slow motion splashing the canvas with brushes in either hand, close up, pan back, wonky angle, damn woman is throwing herself on the canvas again, she's going to paint it with her tits through a sweater, somebody, please, ....
It's over the top, really, but, damned if despite the nice weather nobodies out digging up crystals or gems.
Immigration in Canada...

This is actually surprisingly close to Canada's current Immigration Model. Import foreign students with the promise of an education that offers no real skills but the chance to spend money and work lowly paying jobs at Dominos and 7/11.
It's a heck of a lot easier than addressing the very real economic/social problems that see our own children unable or unwilling to afford stable housing and careers of their own.

And, in times when I'm not quite up to playing Chess I watch Magnus Carlsen videos on YouTube, short summaries of blitz games he plays with opponents.
He's absolutely brilliant, and while I can follow along with his moves he finds himself much further along in the games than I do.
My game, alas, is still very much a "horsey makes L" sort of style, which shows in my results, and probably I should dig out my chess board so I can follow along and play out his games - streamline my rather chaotic thinking into his very definitely organized mold.
It's a little like a 3 year old watching Picasso paint on glass, then gathering up his/her art supplies to make their own painting...
Only the three year old is a lot further along than I am...
Poor Things - Yorgos Lanthimos

Still unavailable on Pirate Bay, and so I squeezed my wallet and took myself out on a Tuesday night.
This was exactly what I expected. To clarify, I didn't expect much - the high praise and glorious reviews were more a caution than a recommendation, and - upon seeing - I realized I was entirely right.
That said, not the worst film, slightly entertaining, but - while Yorgos Lanthimos is the master of cinematic metaphor, his exposure to Hollywood has substantially dumbed him down, his content now decipherable by the most mediocre film reviewers or enthusiasts. A shame.
